At Rockley Brahmans Australia, breeding elite red Brahmans isn’t just what we do—it’s who we are.
At Rockley Brahmans Australia, we recognize that misunderstandings about BREEDPLAN and Estimated Breeding Values (EBVs) can exist. Our commitment to using this advanced system is pivotal to our approach to breeding superior cattle, which we call
“The Future of Breeding the Best.”
A system for beef cattle developed in Australia, now used by all breeds nationally and under licence internationally. It calculates Estimated Breeding Values (EBVs) for key production traits.
EBV calculations consider an animal’s own performance, the performance of its relatives, the heritability of individual traits, and the relationships among different traits.
BREEDPLAN is increasingly adopted overseas. When selling semen on the international market, providing BREEDPLAN figures is becoming essential — something Ashley noted at the 2014 World Congress in South Africa.
Our commitment is straightforward: to breed fertile, efficient, and quiet-tempered Brahmans that thrive in challenging conditions and deliver consistent and outstanding results for both stud and commercial producers.
Our elite cattle exhibit seven key breeding attributes- superior fertility, quiet temperament, sound udders, and more—ensuring they meet the high demands of both stud breeders and commercial producers.
Discover the difference these traits make in enhancing productivity and profitability by exploring our selection of top-tier bulls and heifers for sale.
Rigorous management and selection enhance breeding success.
Females are aimed to mate early and breed throughout their lives.
Males are selected for optimal scrotal size and semen motility and morphology.
Genetically selected for calmness to ease integration into herds.
Progeny consistently maintain favourable temperaments.
Our breeding program prioritises naturally quiet cattle, selected through generations- not created by excessive handling.
All females are udder scored and evaluated within 24 hours of calving, ensuring strict selection and culling standards are maintained.
Prioritizing udder soundness in both females and bulls.
Cattle adapted for harsh environments and drought conditions.
Bulls enhance genetic gain through efficient breeding.
Focus on longevity through comprehensive culling and selection.
We place significant emphasis on breeding structurally sound cattle built for longevity and productivity.
Ensures regular reproduction and durability in herds.
Measured for increased carcass weight and profitability.
Aimed for moderate frame, easy fleshing, and good body condition.
We have always prioritised clean underlines and tidy sheaths, breeding functional bulls with reduced susceptibility to injury, greater longevity and the ability to perform in extensive commercial environments.
Whether you’re expanding your herd with a prize Rockley bull, investing in high-quality females, or fast-tracking genetic gains with our semen or embryos. We’re here to support you every step of the way.
Our breeding program boasts remarkable statistics, producing 3x the progeny per straw of semen compared to the Australian and global averages.
This translates to increased productivity for our
clients, as our cattle thrive in a variety of conditions.
We are happy and willing to tell you every little detail about the animals we breed. We pride ourselves on being open and honest.
We put the client first, we know what cattle we aim to breed but first and foremost we listen to what you want. We are here for you, to meet your needs and wants and to put you first.
We are committed to sustainability through being proactive with our animal welfare
practices; our Active Carbon Project where we are working to reduce our carbon
footprint – and our Regenerative Practices.
We aim to be more business-like than any other cattle breeder. We pride on ourselves on being reliable, competent and respectful.
You can rely on us to be truthful, honest and kind. We follow through on what we say we will do.
To maintain this standard, we actively seek superior genetic material and domestic markets, ensuring that our breeding choices align with our clients’ needs.
We acknowledge that while BREEDPLAN and EBVs are becoming more widely adopted, genetic evaluation methods can differ across countries and breeds. At Rockley Brahmans Australia, we are dedicated to guiding our clients through these intricacies step by step, ensuring you fully understand how our data applies to your operation.
Fertility is the cornerstone of our breeding program. Our breeding season is tightly controlled, with sires joined and removed on set dates each year. These records are submitted to Breedplan to accurately record Days to Calving (DTC), allowing us to make informed selection decisions based on female fertility. Yearling females are joined alongside our mature breeders, with no preferential treatment or separate joining period. This approach allows us to identify females that reach puberty early, conceive under commercial conditions and continue to calve consistently year after year. All females are pregnancy tested at weaning, and any female that fails to conceive within the defined joining period is culled. Our objective is to breed productive, commercially relevant cattle with early maturity and the ability to consistently deliver a calf every 12 months.
Every sale bull undergoes a comprehensive BULLCHECK® assessment by a certified Australian Cattle Veterinarian at approximately 600 days of age. This includes a full structural and reproductive examination, along with semen motility and morphology testing. Morphology results are submitted to Breedplan to record Percent Normal Sperm (PNS), ensuring fertility is objectively measured, recorded and selected for across each generation.

Kent is a cherry red sire, tremendously balanced, all in a homozygous polled package. A bull we will use heavily due to his consistent pedigree, balance of phenotype, genotype and overall structural soundness. His full brother Arkyn (PS) sold to the highly regarded Fairy Springs Stud for $80,000 at Rockhampton Brahman Week, 2023. Dam is a feminine, smooth coated female that has bred every year in between IVF and ET programs, calf at foot in 2023.
A bull with strong carcass traits and a nice combination of muscle and fat cover. A breed average birth weight bull, in the 10% for gestation length, with above average growth, that we believe would make him the ideal to put over heifers. In the top 5% scrotal size, 2 % retail yield and 16% flight time (temperament). Kent is also in the top 10% for the Central Production Index and top 18% for the Live Export Index.
